Lee County in Southwest Florida
You find Lee County on the Florida West Coast about 120 miles south of Tampa and directly north of Naples. If you arrive in Tampa, just take highway 75 south until you reach Fort Myers. We also have a large international airport in Lee County which serves the southwest part of Florida. Our sub-tropical climate lends itself to pursuing outdoor activities year round. Golf, swimming, boating, sailing, shelling, tennis, and fishing are all very popular activities here. You find the following communities in Lee County:

Bonita Springs - is Southwest Florida's newest city. While residents voted to incorporate in 2000, Bonita Springs is one of Southwest Florida's fastest growing and most diverse communities with about 43,000 residents.
Cape Coral - sprouted in the boom years of the late 1950's and early 1960's. The Cape has become a comfortable, sprawling community that includes about 400 miles of canals and more than 150,000 residents.
Alva, Buckingham and Olga-are rural communities in east Lee County. Alva, founded in 1882, was one of the first communities established in the county. Buckingham was the site of a World War II Army base where airplane gunners were trained. Olga, founded in 1883 or 1884, is nestled along the Caloosahatchee River.
Estero- was founded when 250 pioneering settlers carved a new, Utopian society out of Southwest Florida wilderness in 1894. While their dream to make Estero the cultural and religious center of the world was never realized, Estero, in the past 20 years, has become Lee County's fastest growing area with more than 30,000 residents, including 5,500 part-time residents.
Fort Myers- the heart of government for Lee County, Fort Myers is also Lee County's oldest city, incorporating in 1886. The city was conceived during the Indian Wars of 1830's and 1840's, but didn't really come into its own until the turn of the century. The population is 61,000 which includes the annexation of Dunbar and Belle Vue. High-rises are now going up along the city's downtown riverfront.
Fort Myers Beach - the first real estate boom hit here in 1925 and lots on Estero Island could be sold site unseen. The earliest census figures for Fort Myers Beach as a separate district go back to 1940. Now 6,800 people live on this 7-mile long island.
Lehigh Acres - is a fast growing community that dominates the east side of Lee County. A diverse population of more than 60,000 people enjoy five Golf courses and many fishing lakes. There are more than 90,000 vacant lots. Lehigh is one of the most affordable in Southwest Florida, attracting young families and retirees.
North Fort Myers - is a rural community north of the Caloosahatchee River that still has woodlands and range land but also has plenty of planned communities and new development. Population is 50,000.
Pine Island - and its communities are tucked into Lee County's northwest corner celebrated by tropical fruit lovers, commercial fishermen and recreational anglers, bird watchers, artists and 9,300 year round residents. The 17 mile log island consists of Matlacha, Pine Island Center, St. James City, Bokeelia and Pineland.
San Carlos Park - the median age of residents in San Carlos Park is 34, making it the youngest community in Lee County. San Carlos, developed in 1853, has seen its population grow to about 17,000 people.
Sanibel and Captiva Island - Islanders voted in 1974 to create the city of Sanibel. Today, about 6,300 people live full-time on Sanibel and 400 on Captiva. Sanibel is separated from the mainland by a 3 miles long causeway.
South Fort Myers - This area encompasses US 41 south of Colonial Blvd to San Carlos Park and west to the Gulf of Mexico and east along the Daniels Parkway corridor. More than 31,000 people live in this area, which in many ways is considered the epicenter of Lee County.
